The Department of Accounting (Formerly Department of Management and Accounting) is one of the four departments created when the then Institute of Administration was converted into a faculty by a special resolution of the University Senate on 5th March 1976. Prior to this time, it was a unit within the Institute providing postgraduate level instructional programmes designed to professionalize the administrative class of government. Becoming an integral part of the University’s academic organization structure, the Department assumed responsibility for the development of subjects and courses within its purview and competence of its teaching staff. The Department started with B.Sc. Accounting programme and currently runs a PGD in Financial Management, M.Sc. Accounting, and a PhD Accounting programme.  To date, the Department has produced many graduates at both the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels who are serving this nation creditably in both private and public organizations.
